Its question time

Working with us

  • We work with clients both locally and remotely. Local in-person consultations and design services are available within a 50-mile radius of Huddersfield (travel beyond this is charged at £0.50 per mile), while remote services are delivered via Zoom, phone, or using Email and project documentation.

  • Yes — we offer a brief, structured consultation either locally in person or remotely via Zoom/telephone. This session is designed to answer your initial questions, clarify your project needs, and determine if we’re the right fit. It is not a full design session, so you’ll get guidance without extensive design work upfront.

  • We typically request any existing floor plans, inspiration images, project briefs, or room measurements you may have. Photos of the space are also helpful for remote consultations.

  • Yes — we can work alongside your existing professionals, providing design input and ensuring your project remains cohesive.

  • Your involvement can be tailored to your preference. Some clients like regular check-ins, while others prefer we manage most of the design process.

  • Yes — we can step in at any stage, though early involvement usually ensures the best outcomes.

  • We work with a wide range of clients, from those renovating single rooms to those completing full-house projects. We also work with trade professionals, builders, developers, and individuals with unique homes or spaces, from traditional houses to unconventional properties.

  • Yes — we love tackling unique spaces and bringing creativity to compact or unconventional homes. Whether it’s a canal barge, van, houseboat, or other bespoke living environment, we apply the same principles of layered design, functionality, and spatial clarity to make the most of every square foot.

The design process

  • Our 4D Principle is a structured, Human-Led approach to design, capturing the essence of how you want your space to feel and look. It interprets the emotional and descriptive language you use to articulate your ideal home.

    It includes:

Discover — uncovering your routines, priorities, and the feelings each space should convey, forming the foundation of your vision.

Design — translating aspirations into spatial ideas. We explore form, flow, and atmosphere, shaping your vision into concepts that reflect your words and intentions.

Define — refining and clarifying the plan. Layouts, flows, and functions are aligned with how you want to live, ensuring practicality and emotional resonance.

Deliver — bringing your vision to full realisation. Every detail is considered, ready to be implemented, creating a home that is functional, beautiful, and unmistakably yours.

This approach ensures every project is rooted in your personal vision, harmonising intuition and discernment to create spaces that are meaningful, considered, and uniquely yours.

  • A 15–20 minute session to discuss your project, answer questions, and see if we’re the right fit. This is a no-obligation chat to explore your needs and priorities.

  • A focused, in-depth session to review your project. We discuss layouts, materials, finishes, and provide expert guidance on next steps. Local in-person meetings are included within a 25-mile radius of Huddersfield; travel beyond this is charged at £0.50 per mile. Remote consultations via Zoom/telephone are also available.

  • A full-day, on-site review of your space covering layout, lighting, circulation, finishes, and furniture. You’ll receive a tailored summary with practical recommendations to move your project forward confidently. Local in-person service is included within a 25-mile radius; additional travel is charged at £0.50 per mile. Remote clients can also be accommodated.

  • We translate your ideas into layouts, elevations, presentation visuals, and suggested materials, furniture, and finishes. One round of minor revisions is included. This stage provides a clear vision for your project, helping you make informed decisions.

  • Detailed technical drawings, dimensioned layouts, and specification sheets for furniture, finishes, and materials. This package is fully detailed for client-led procurement and implementation. Additional revisions after sign-off are charged at £80/hr.

  • Yes, we offer the following specialist consultations:

    Lighting Consultation
Expert guidance on lighting layout, fixture selection, placement, ambiance, and integration with your interiors. Ideal for clients seeking specialist insight before committing to a full design service.

    Window Treatments Consultation
Tailored advice on curtains, blinds, shutters, and other treatments, including style, materials, finishes, and functional considerations. Measurement, ordering, and installation are outside the scope but can be arranged as a follow-up service with a trusted supplier.

Trades, suppliers & collaboration

  • We can suggest tradespeople we’ve worked with previously and who have delivered good results for past clients. However, we recommend you carry out your own due diligence before engaging anyone, as all appointments are made at your discretion.

  • No — we provide detailed design packages, specifications, and guidance for trades, but clients manage scheduling and coordination with installers or suppliers directly.

  • Yes — detailed drawings and specifications are included as part of Design Development or Architectural Design packages.

  • Yes — our packages are compatible with any trades or contractors you choose to use.

  • No — The Designary provides the design and specification; implementation is managed by the client and their chosen contractors.

  • We can provide recommendations if requested, but the client manages hiring and coordination. We always advise clients to meet, assess, and formally appoint all contractors themselves.

Furniture, fixtures & materials

  • Yes in some instances.

For certain products or suppliers (e.g., worktops, bespoke furniture), we may apply a transparent, fixed-percentage recommendation fee. This covers our specialist guidance, specification, and supplier recommendations.

    How it works:

    • Fees are fully transparent and explained before any work begins.

    • A fixed percentage of the quoted product cost is applied; for example:

Worktops: Kitchen companies often charge double the supplier cost. We would apply a fair 15% fee on the quoted price, reflecting our specialist industry knowledge, guidance, specification, and supplier advice.

    • This fee compensates for our expertise and support; it does not transfer responsibility for product performance, delivery, or installation to The Designary.

    • Final fees are confirmed once specific quotes or supplier details are obtained and confirmed, ensuring transparency and fairness.

  • Yes — we provide curated guidance on trusted kitchen furniture suppliers. Where we assist with research, specification, and coordination, a small recommendation fee of 15–20% may be applied to reflect the time, expertise, and legwork involved.

All fees are fully transparent and confirmed before any purchase is made. Responsibility for purchasing, delivery, and installation remains with the client.

  • Yes — we provide guidance and recommendations for trusted suppliers. Kitchen companies often mark up worktops significantly, sometimes charging double the supplier cost. Where we provide this specialist guidance, a fixed recommendation fee of 15% is typically applied to the quoted supplier cost. For more complex or bespoke guidance, a 20% fee may be applied.

All fees are fully transparent and confirmed after quotes are obtained, before any purchase is made. Responsibility for product performance, delivery, and installation remains with the supplier or client.

  • Yes — we offer impartial advice based on our experience with a wide range of brands, including Gaggenau, Bora, Miele, Wolf, Subzero, Liebherr, Siemens, Quooker, and Neff.

We guide you in selecting appliances that suit your lifestyle, layout, and budget — whether integrated cooking, refrigeration, extraction, or smart appliances. While we don’t officially endorse specific manufacturers, we help you weigh up options and find models that fit your needs and design.

Final selection and purchasing remain entirely your decision, but we’re here to help you make informed choices.

  • Yes — as part of our Procurement Guidance service, we provide layouts, quantity calculations, tile orientation, and finish specifications to guide your purchase. We do not purchase materials on your behalf unless you book the separate Enhanced Procurement Service. Responsibility for purchase, delivery, and installation remains with the client or supplier, and any recommendation fees are outlined on our Procurement Guidance page.

  • Thoughtful lighting is integral to every interior design project. We consider natural light, task needs, and ambiance to ensure each space is functional and beautiful, with guidance on fixture types, placement, and controls coordinated to complement your overall design.

For clients seeking a deeper approach, we offer a dedicated lighting consultation. This specialist service provides bespoke fixture selection, detailed layout planning, and coordination with electricians or suppliers to bring your lighting design fully to life.

Whether included as part of your interior design project or booked as a standalone session, our goal is to create spaces that are as well-lit as they are thoughtfully designed.

  • Window treatment design and specification are included as part of our interior design service. We guide you through options that suit your space, style, and budget, including blinds, curtains, shutters, or layered solutions.
